The year is 1551, and Arden of Faversham is about to be murdered. The play tells the dramatic story of Thomas Arden, a wealthy landowner in 16th-century England, who is murdered as part of a plot orchestrated by his unfaithful wife Alice and her lover, Mosby. It’s based on a true story of a murder in 1551
At its centre stands Johnny “Rooster” Byron, a drug-dealing, storytelling squatter whose character echoes the archetype of Christ in provocative and complex ways. For A-level students and teachers, unpacking these parallels offers a compelling lens through which to explore themes of sacrifice, redemption, and resistance to authority.
Before I started working with Rob and Wild Will, I was in a bit of a rough patch. After leaving university, I felt completely unsure of where I was heading. I knew I wanted to work in the Art Department—building and dressing sets has always been a dream—but I’d lost confidence in myself and in my ability to make that dream a reality.
